About Us

Mauria te Pono Trust was created by our whānau toto who saw the need for a kaupapa led by whānau, for whānau. Our whānau were impacted by intergenerational trauma, leading many of us toward alcohol and drug harm.

Kim and Manny, who were in recovery for 20+ years at the time, realized that our own whānau needed support, so they began by offering whanau ora wānanga. What started as three wānanga grew into a shared commitment to walk alongside other whānau on their healing journey.

We now share our lived experiences and the tools that helped us with our healing journey. Our mahi is about standing with whānau as they rebuild, reconnect, and stand in their own Rangatiratanga. When we chose “Mauria te Pono” as our trust name, we felt it was fitting to our values.

“Stand in your greatness and do it with truth”

Maumaharatanga - Dedicated to Manny Mercer Kipa

(Co-Founder of Mauria te Pono trust)

He was a man whose presence could fill a room long before he ever spoke. The kind that didn’t need to announce itself, because everyone who met him felt it immediately. He was 30 years clean off all substances, therefore, he loved to share his stories and experiences with others.

He had a gift for making others feel seen and heard, always reminding them that they are a “RANGATIRA” no matter their situation or background. He had a funny and natural charisma which lifted the spirits of others.

Maumaharatanga - Tribute to Jamaine Skipper

(Founder of T.R.U.T.H)

Jamaine Skipper is a man known for his talents, non‑judgement, strength and humility. He was a passionate family man who brought everyone he loved together, “the glue of the whānau.” He was encouraged by his to dream. To create a kaupapa that will give youth a safe space to express.

His gift was telling his stories through song and rap, so he wanted others, like him, to have that same opportunity. With his sis, he dreamt up what it could look like and created what became TRUTH.

T.R.U.T.H — Tomorrow’s Rangatira Uniting to Heal, reflects the kotahitanga you feel when rangatahi come together to share or vent through art mediums. Jamaine leaves behind a legacy which is carried on by his next generations. Through them, the TRUTH team, and every young person who finds healing in this kaupapa, his legacy lives on.
